Your Guide to Eastern Lake Powell

Your Guide to Eastern Lake Powell

Lake Powell is the largest body of water in southern Utah. The cool Lake draws thousands of guests from all over the country who want to keep from baking in the desert heat. The Best Things to See

It’s not a trip to Southern Utah if you don’t see something breathtaking! If you’re looking for some of the best things to see in Lake Powell, we are here to highlight some of the main features and secret spots of the eastern half of the lake that will keep you coming back.

Whether you hike the backpacking trail or sail a motorboat to it, Reflection Canyon offers a stunning look at the eastern half of Lake Powell. You’ll see the crystal clear blue water reflect the canyon mountains common in southern Utah.

Sail south of the marinas listed earlier in the article, and you’ll eventually come to the San Juan River junction. Take a right and you’ll find the canyon. It’s a great place to swim, fish, and take in the scenery.

Reflection Canyon

The Rainbow Bridge is a naturally-crafted arch off the coast of Lake Powell. If you see Reflection Canyon and continue southwest, you’ll eventually come to the Rainbow Bridge entry point. If you want to walk this short hike, beach your boat and make the muddy trek to the natural wonder.

It’s an easy route that runs along the cliffside. It’s about two miles out and back.

Rainbow Bridge National Monument

Defiance House

If you decide to sail north of the marinas, you’ll find a pull-off where you can hike to the Defiance House. This is a relic from the Native Americans who lived here in the late 1200s. You’ll find the remnants of a cliff dwelling and cave drawings from the era. This is a culturally remarkable place to explore in Lake Powell.
